Clay Henry, the district's high school principal, told the board he is looking forward to the new year and outlined staffing and orientation plans. Henry said the school added two new teachers — an English teacher and a special education teacher — and scheduled freshman orientation on Wednesday, Aug. 21 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.; seniors will attend a separate session to select parking spots. "That's just for our new students who wanna come in our freshmen," Henry said, describing the schedule and administrative orientation time at 6:30 p.m.
Henry also said he plans to be more visible in hallways and classrooms, explaining he intends to purchase a cart to carry a laptop and spend three days a week moving through the building. "My goal is to be in the hallways at least 3 days a week," he said, adding the presence is meant to improve student accountability and provide support for teachers. He thanked staff for their work and said he is excited for the new year.
