Alderman Parker to introduce ordinance restricting invasive plants in Shrewsbury

Alderman Beth Parker presented a proposed amendment to Section 205.030 of the Shrewsbury Municipal Code that would prohibit planting or allowing the growth of invasive plants as defined by the Missouri Department of Conservation and fold those species into the City's existing weed enforcement procedures.
Parker told the Board the proposed change would allow the city to declare invasive plants a nuisance, pursue abatement and cost recovery, and remove an outdated subsection of the current ordinance to streamline enforcement. She said the ordinance "will be introduced for first reading at the July 14, 2026 Board of Aldermen meeting, with second reading and final passage scheduled for the August 11, 2026 meeting."
