Audubon Area Community Services seeks centralized Henderson site; will request county aid after purchase

Brandon Harley, chief executive officer of Audubon Area Community Services, told the Henderson County Fiscal Court that the agency is pursuing purchase of a building on Stadium Drive intended to consolidate multiple programs and restore lost capacity.
“Once the purchase of the building is complete and renovation commences, I plan to return to Fiscal Court to request financial assistance,” Harley said. He said the site would bring programs now scattered across the community—Kynect, Family Preservation, AmeriCorps Senior Program, GRITS Transportation, Head Start pre-school, Low-income Home Energy Assistance, and Community Care Clinics—under one roof to expand critical services and allow for future expansion.
Harley estimated an approximate 18-month renovation timeline and said the building’s size would permit adding services over time. He did not provide a purchase price or specific funding request at this meeting. The court took no vote on funding at the July 14 session; Harley’s remarks were presented as information and a notice that a future funding request would follow.
The presentation underscores efforts by local nonprofits to centralize services that serve low-income residents and families. County Judge/Executive Brad Schneider introduced the item during the meeting opening and indicated the court would consider any future formal request according to its budget and policies.
