The Gastonia City Council on July 21 adopted the 54-page "Gastonia Reimagined" downtown revitalization plan, a strategic framework intended to guide future decisions on public land and private development. Patrick Mumford, president and CEO of the Gaston Business Association, presented the plan and told the council it is intended as an actionable guide rather than a prescriptive master plan. "It's really a strategic document that allows you all, through your decisioning, to knit projects together so that over time we see parcels and projects working together," Mumford said.
Council discussion touched on implementation and partnerships. Mumford emphasized public-private partnerships and noted he will ask Gaston County to adopt the plan at an upcoming work session because the county helped fund the work. Councilman Kasufius moved to adopt the resolution; the motion was seconded and approved unanimously. The resolution adopts the plan as a guiding tool for evaluating downtown proposals; it does not appropriate funding or authorize specific projects. The council recorded no further conditions at adoption; staff will pursue next steps including communicating the plan to the development community and coordinating county adoption.
