Council approves change order to add 113 water meters, extend construction and raise contract

The council recorded an increase to the contract not-to-exceed amount from $15,849,057 to $16,253,733—an increase of $410,676—and noted the change would be contingent on USDA approval.
Aaron of B and G Consultants said the change order "brings that total to 830" meters, up from the original 717 included in the project documents, and emphasized the new work covers meters, taps and service lines rather than additional mainline extensions. A council member asked about the added 180 days, and Aaron said the extra time reflected the additional install work associated with those service lines. The motion to approve was moved, seconded and carried with the council recording "aye" votes.
Council members and staff also noted a project contingency would absorb some of the cost increases and that the additional meters would increase customer counts helping repay the USDA loan. The council explicitly tied the change order—s effectiveness to USDA concurrence, as requested by the project engineer.
