They walked council members through tools such as surplus-property lists, Clean Water State Revolving Fund contacts, Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) loans, FEMA mitigation programming and other federal grant opportunities, and they said the office will compile a grants newsletter to help local agencies monitor new openings.
The staffers noted the district office can provide letters of support and help with agency contacts; they gave examples of past support, including working with a conservation group and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to secure a grant for erosion-pattern study work. They encouraged the county and nonprofit groups to route grant questions through their office and offered casework assistance (VA, IRS, passports) from regional staffers.
Council members said the county plans to bring the newly hired grant writer online May 1 and asked the district staff to coordinate with county staff and the town grant writers to avoid duplicative or haphazard applications. The presentation was informational; committee members agreed to coordinate further and consider referrals to the finance committee for budget-related grant matches when applicable.
