Council approves $307,019 CDBG allocation for expanded Bellevue Pantry

The Bellevue City Council on July 21 approved Resolution No. 2026-14 to accept the community development block grant budget for the Oct. 2026–Sept. 2027 program year in an amount not to exceed $307,019.
Aaron Bowen, executive director of Eastern Nebraska Community Action Partnership, told the council the pantry project has begun demolition of the old library building and will transform the site into a community hub. "This will grow from a 52 square feet to 21,500 feet, with a 3,000 square foot client choice style store," Bowen said, and described added meeting rooms, shower space for resource groups, and disaster‑response staging capability. Jill Connor, who said she represents local stakeholders, described the renovation timeline and the need for lighting and concrete work to allow deliveries and safe client access.
Council discussion thanked city staff and the CDBG committee for vetting applications and recommended the award. Councilman Preister praised the committee’s review of proposals and said the selected projects will "make a wonderful contribution" to the community. The motion to adopt Resolution 2026-14 carried unanimously.
