Board hears AIMSweb results showing mixed growth and low middle‑school vocabulary scores

The Pewaukee School District Board on June 8 heard the district's first full-year results from the AIMSweb Plus universal screener, and staff cautioned against making immediate instructional shifts based on a single assessment cycle.
"Looking at growth, 59.6% of students met their growth in reading this year," Candice said while presenting slides and district trends. Anthony prefaced the presentation by explaining the district moved to AIMSweb Plus so it would align screening through grade 8. Board members pressed staff to explain an apparent drop in vocabulary scores for grades 6 and 7 and asked how the AIMSweb results compare with other measures.
Candice and other staff said vocabulary results in those grades were an unexpected outlier for this first year of full implementation and described plans to "dig a little deeper" by comparing AIMSweb with STAR and classroom data at upcoming summer data retreats. Board members repeatedly requested clearer demographic breakdowns on the slides (IEP status, economic status, race and gender) so the presentations do not leave ambiguous impressions about subgroup performance.
Staff described immediate next steps: summer math and ELA data retreats to triangulate assessment sources, targeted word-study supports at the middle level (including use of Morpheme Magic), and teacher professional development to bring consistent word-study strategies into content classrooms. The board did not take any formal action on curriculum or staffing changes at the meeting; staff said they will return with analysis and recommendations after the summer data work.
