Council denies appeal to allow RV as office at 315 North Mulberry

The Kermit City Council denied an appeal from a property owner seeking to place an additional RV as an office inside a permitted RV park at 315 North Mulberry.
Staff explained the city code treats RVs as housing, not accessory office space, and that adding a unit beyond the permit would require the owner to bring the site into full compliance or seek variances. The staff member (speaker 6) said the RV in question shared utilities and lacked its own utility box, and that the application to use it as an office therefore conflicted with the ordinance.
"RVs are primarily for housing and not for an office complex," the staff member said while explaining the denial. Council members noted that converting an RV to a small accessory building or placing a proper accessory structure for an office would be a different matter and could be permitted under code, but using an RV as an office is not allowed under current rules.
A motion to deny the appeal was made, seconded and approved by the council. Staff advised that the owner may pursue required variances or otherwise comply with site requirements if they wish to seek a different outcome in the future.
