Superintendent: capital levy would help maintain networks, devices and building security

Alan Berg said technology needs go beyond replacing student Chromebooks and include the district's networks, wireless infrastructure, software licensing, and building security systems. "Every student in grades kindergarten through 12 uses technology every day, but technology is much more than the Chromebook sitting on a student's desk," he said, and argued that levy dollars could be used for ongoing maintenance and infrastructure.
Berg noted that while student devices eventually require replacement, sustaining school networks, security, and subscription services is an ongoing capital need. He said digital instructional resources and platform licenses purchased with one-time federal COVID relief funding will require renewal, which the levy would help cover.
