Superintendent reports on back-to-school preparations, summer programs and staffing

An elementary staff member reported on back-to-school letters, new teacher orientation and the Edge summer school program running through July 31; teachers and paraprofessionals supporting summer instruction were named. The Tri Community Arts group was noted to have 55-plus community members preparing a summer musical with performances July 30–Aug. 2.
A middle- and high-school staff member summarized recent hiring activity, including recommendations for a 6–12 ELA teacher, a choir director and a 6–12 physical education hire; the board was told those recommendations would be presented for approval that evening. The middle-high staff member also described math standards professional development and fall professional development planning tied to the district strategic plan.
Next steps: administrators will finalize staffing approvals and distribute back-to-school materials and schedules ahead of the first day of classes.
