The Port Angeles City Council voted unanimously to approve the purchase of two 2026 Ford F-150 responder vehicles for the police department, in a motion moved by Council Member John and approved without objection. The council authorized the city manager to execute purchase documents for two trucks at $88,978.50 each, including taxes and accessories, for a total of $177,957.04.
Police Chief Smith told council the trucks will replace older full-size SUVs and are intended to carry specialized gear for trainers and crisis-response officers, listing items such as a ballistic shield, less-lethal launcher, trauma kit and a defibrillator. "They'll fit everything we need" he said, explaining the vehicles' outfitting and the decision to use a cooperative Arizona contract to secure VIN-assigned units rapidly. The motion passed unanimously by voice consent.
