Jay also warned trustees that the district’s insurance costs have increased substantially: locally the district’s premium rose about 40% and the superintendent cited a statewide increase of 279% in insurance costs since 2018, noting this growth far outpaces state allocations for materials, supplies and operating costs (which the superintendent said rose 34%). Jay said district leaders are pressing legislators for relief and that insurance inflation is a significant budget concern.
Board members thanked staff for extensive work over the summer and asked staff to continue communicating results from summer programming and to provide budgetary updates on insurance and legislative outreach.
