The council reported the results of the Feb. 10 special election to fill a vacated at-large council seat. Eric Jarvey was sworn in during the meeting and the clerk recorded the election tally: Eric Jarvey 207 votes, Perry Anton Sr. 71, Hugh Porter 74, David Swihart 3, with one ballot intentionally left blank and no write-ins.
The chair and several councilors commented on the low turnout, which amounted to 356 ballots cast of 6,123 eligible voters (5.81 percent); councilors urged greater civic participation and noted appreciation for candidates who ran.
