Council reviews trail realignment; city share of project rises to roughly $180,000–$210,000

Dan Socialenberger briefed the council on a revised trail alignment and funding implications. He said the overall trail project is "around $649,000 total" and that previous assumptions about a 75/25 grant-to-city match did not include easement costs for the new alignment. Socialenberger estimated the city’s share would increase and provided a current estimate of roughly $180,000 to $210,000 for the city's portion.
He told the council staff will refine the cost breakdown and send the realigned plan to ECIA for review and to confirm funding. Councilmembers asked whether the project belongs in the capital improvement plan and discussed timing, noting DOT and other grant cycles affect when the project must be obligated and when construction will occur. Socialenberger said construction likely would occur after July of the next fiscal year and that he will return with refined numbers.
