The Grand Rapids City Commission voted to adopt an ordinance authorizing the possible issuance of one or more series of water system improvement junior-lien revenue bonds not to exceed $21,500,000 to fund water-main replacement, replacement of leaded water services, and restoration of affected rights-of-way.
Commissioner Knight presented the item, noting that the publication of the 45-day notice of intent occurred on 05/17/2026 and that the referendum period expired on 07/01/2026 with no petition filed. "The notice of intent was published... the 45 day referendum period expired on 07/01/2026, and no petition for referendum was filed," the commissioner said.
The improvements listed included replacement of aging water mains on Oakwick Avenue, Valley Avenue, Berkshire Street, Wealthy Street, Jefferson Avenue, Butterworth Street, Buchanan Avenue, Milbank Street, and Plymouth Avenue, plus replacement of leaded water services where necessary. The commission conducted a roll-call vote; the motion passed unanimously (6–0). Immediate effect was approved by voice following the roll-call vote.
