Council and staff discussed a petition filed for the former FOP property on Johnson Road that seeks variances rather than rezoning. Chris explained the petition is seeking forgiveness for existing conditions and that the BZA must be scheduled to consider variances.
"They're asking for variances to allow what they're asking for forgiveness versus permission," Chris said, adding that the BZA must be convened because it has not met regularly. The council agreed staff should coordinate with Pete to set the hearing and publish the required notice.
The meeting included logistical questions about scheduling and notice requirements; council members stressed the need to get the petition set for a hearing so the variance process can proceed.
