Brad Millis of v3 presented July 22 on remediation work at Carwick Nature Park, identifying two outstanding permit criteria: low shrub survivorship and a phragmites infestation.
Milllis told the board that of roughly 300 shrubs planted in 2020 only about 55 remained — roughly 15% survivorship versus the 75% required by the permit. "Shrubs planted back in 2020 and as of last year of only 55 have survived, which is about 15 percent and the permit requires 75%." He said v3 plans to plant about 285 additional shrubs in drier locations on the site, perform herbicide treatment events in August and September, and continue follow-up treatment in 2027 to reduce phragmites to under 1% cover.
Staff confirmed all remediation work will be paid from a prior grant (car remediation funds) and will not draw on sanitary district operating funds. The board welcomed the update and staff said they will share a staking map of proposed shrub locations with commissioners.
