Unused contingency/RIF funds eyed for Birch Tree Farms stormwater improvements

District staff updated the board on the US 12 project and a plan to apply unused contingency and RIF grant savings to neighborhood stormwater improvements in Birch Tree Farms.
Watts explained that after identifying surface-water ponding where storm sewer capacity is limited, the state approved using unused contingency funds from the lift-station project for stormwater relief in the neighborhood. He said staff are pursuing unit pricing with H & G Underground and hope to return in August with a proposed change order to budget the work. One commissioner noted roughly $1,500,000 of ARPA funds had been used earlier on related projects.
Staff said phase 1 would put storm sewer behind units and route flow to a nearby lake; phase 2 could extend additional drainage depending on remaining funds. The board did not vote on construction at this meeting and asked staff to return with firm cost estimates.
