Council asks for one more community workshop before finalizing parks master plan

Assistant City Manager Roxanne Lerma presented a near-final draft of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan, summarizing technical analysis, demographic review and community outreach (three workshops, surveys and stakeholder interviews). She outlined three priorities: maintain and modernize existing parks, expand amenities (dog park, pickleball courts, inclusive playgrounds, aquatic amenities) and strengthen recreation program offerings.
Mayor Pro Tem Contos moved that staff host one additional community workshop to give residents a final opportunity to review the draft; the motion, seconded by Councilman Wu, passed. Council and staff agreed to return the draft plan to the council by Aug. 18 and to continue addressing urgent maintenance items immediately. "This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity," the Mayor Pro Tem said, urging one final engagement session before adoption in September.
Staff said some projects (e.g., splash pad repairs and dog park planning) could move forward while the final plan is refined and committed to provide a draft timeline and to identify projects public works can accomplish internally.
