Commissioners reported the first paint-collection event under the current grant served 101 cars and calculated roughly 5,100 total pounds were collected. Organizers said the average load amounted to about 50 pounds per car; the commission discussed signage errors that created some traffic confusion and pledged to correct arrow signs for future events.
"Our 1st paint event went very well. We had 101 cars," a committee member reported, and a colleague added the total weight estimate: "It's 5,100 total pounds." Members reviewed how the grant covers the first 30 pounds per household and debated whether to reserve some grant funds for future events to avoid exhausting the budget early in the cycle. They also discussed hazardous-waste drop-off requirements and proposed using grant funds to print postcards directing residents to county hazardous-waste facilities for materials the commission cannot accept.
Commissioners noted that many participants came from surrounding communities and recommended broader outreach via social media and a list of regional recycling events for residents. Staff said the county occasionally attends early events and that organizers will plan additional events in August, November and December.
