Tumwater proclaims August 7 National Purple Heart Day; local recipient speaks

Jim Peterson (S9), a Purple Heart recipient who said he was wounded on May 5, 1970, thanked the council and urged continued recognition. "I'm here to represent all Purple Hearts of all wars," Peterson said, recounting his service and asking the council to pursue the local designation.
Council members offered thanks and personal reflections; several described family military service and expressed support for honoring veterans. The council paused afterward for a group photo with Peterson.
