Council members used the oral-communications portion of the meeting to thank staff and volunteers for July events and to announce upcoming activities. Multiple councilors praised the success of the July 4 parade and the recent car show; organizers said they gave away bicycles and other prizes and thanked Gonzales Customs and Streetlow for support.
Director Ozawa (introduced by the mayor) provided an update on the 5th Street truck-ban project: the encroachment permit and Caltrans inspector approvals are complete, signage has been ordered and the contractor will begin installing signs the following Wednesday; some lane closures and traffic control will be required. Other announcements included a soft opening and ribbon cutting for Anytime Fitness, a pool movie night showing Toy Story, and National Night Out on August 4 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on 4th Street.
The council closed the meeting with a moment of silence to honor former Mayor Liz Williams before recessing to closed session for the city-manager evaluation.
