Gonzales City Council welcomes and appoints 2026–27 Youth Council commissioners

The Gonzales City Council formally welcomed and appointed the 2026–27 Gonzales Youth Council commissioners during its July 20 meeting. Jessica Olmedo, the city's recreation coordinator and advisor to the youth council, told the council the students completed an immersive two-week fellowship that included meetings with city leaders and school-board members.
"They also learned about what is local government and began developing their leadership skills so they are prepared to host the GYC meetings throughout the school year," Olmedo said. Students said the fellowship motivated them to pursue community impact: "I was very excited for the fellowship... I joined GYC to overall make community impact," said Orlando, one of the new commissioners.
Olmedo said the student group will present a capstone summary of their takeaways during the council's August meeting. The council welcomed the commissioners and encouraged public attendance at the August presentation.
