Council weighs options to provide recycling bins to residents

Council resumed discussion on providing recycling bins to residents after the item was tabled at an earlier meeting. Staff reported strong resident demand and a vendor quote for 600 generic recycling bins at about $13 per container (18-gallon size), including freight, but said retail prices at big-box stores were only about $1 higher.
Councilmembers discussed logistical and financial options: the town could provide one bin, allow residents to buy a second, include container costs in an assessment and credit revenue as containers are sold, or have residents obtain bins directly. Town attorney Scott Simpson suggested the cost could be included in the overall assessment and credited when revenue is collected. Council asked staff to check whether vendors would sell smaller quantities (e.g., 300) at similar freight costs and to return with firm pricing and distribution plans at the next meeting.
