Council approves change order to add geotechnical fabric on Edinburg Street project

City engineering representatives explained that a geotechnical report and on-site conditions revealed larger-than-expected areas of poor subsoils on the Edinburg Street corridor. An engineer told the council the original project manual omitted fabric for one section and that Change Order No. 5 would add fabric to additional sections so the entire project is protected, reducing the risk of future failures.
Council moved to approve Change Order No. 5 for geotechnical fabric, subject to review by the Public Works Director and WWC Engineering; online voting was opened and closed and the motion passed with six yays. The project manager said ordering pumps and scheduling remain on track and the work is expected to begin toward the end of August or early September.
