The Perry Area Chamber of Commerce submitted an application for the Dogwood Festival 5K on April 10, 2027, following the traditional route through historic neighborhoods and requesting temporary road closures for safety.
Miss Hertz said the race will require temporary closures on Beckham Circle, Forest Hill Road, Hillcrest Avenue, Tolleson Street, Woodland Drive, Duncan Avenue, Massey Lane and sections of Gilmer Street and Ball, and estimated the event would include approximately 600 participants in 2027. Chief Everidge explained the closures would be handled as rolling closures paid for by the Chamber and noted that in the prior year most streets were reopened by about 9:15 a.m. except in the area near the board of education.
Staff recommended approval and will continue coordinating with police on traffic control, signage and safety measures; council members endorsed notifying affected residents in advance.
