Community Builder award honors longtime volunteer Jenny Mathilde

The Volunteer Committee presented the July 2026 Community Builder Award to Jenny Mathilde in recognition of decades of service, including leadership roles with PEO and Soroptimist International and contributions to downtown revitalization. ‘‘Some people serve quietly, never seeking recognition,’’ a committee member said in introducing Mathilde, who was praised for organizing volunteer recognition events and community support initiatives.
Mathilde told the council about a birthday-cake package program that provides cake mix, candles and small party items to families so children can celebrate birthdays. ‘‘We also add balloons, candles, sprinkles, plates—just something a little extra for them to have for their birthday,’’ she said. The council congratulated Mathilde and recessed into the consent and appointment portions of the meeting.
