Fire chief reports failed apparatus tests; new physical exams increase costs

Fire Chief Anthony Blint reported that several pieces of apparatus underwent annual testing in May and that a number of deficiencies were identified. He said City-owned Engine 1 failed inspection and requires two front tires, rear brake pads, and a universal joint, and that county-owned Engine 3 failed pump testing and will require a pump rebuild.
Chief Blint also reminded the Committee of the fire department's recently implemented physical examination requirements and stated that those new standards have increased operational costs. The minutes note that the matter has been discussed previously with the Personnel and Finance Committee; the minutes do not specify the dollar amount of the increased costs.
The Committee received the update; follow-up will center on scheduling repairs, estimating repair costs, and budgeting for higher recurring physical-exam expenses if the standard remains in place.
