Library board urges repairs as library reports 1,334 patrons and new programming

Library Director Tara Engel told the council that after purging long-inactive patron accounts the library’s patron count now stands at 1,334; Engel said she has applied for another Pilcro grant, STEAM club participation doubled, and a book signing with author J.L.E. is scheduled Sept. 20, 2025 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Library Board member Kathy Kayl said the library is a city building and urged the council to address maintenance lapses: she cited an air-conditioning unit purchased but not installed, an ongoing water problem in the building, and gutters that need cleaning. The council took the comments under advisement but did not vote on capital repairs during the meeting.
