The council authorized the city to sign a $3,130,133 contract with Paulson Inc. for reconstruction of a parallel taxiway at the Fremont airport. Director of Public Works Dan Gillis said the project was previously estimated at about $4.4 million; favorable bids brought the construction cost down to roughly $3.13 million, reducing the city's local match by about $153,000 compared with budgeted expectations.
Gillis said the state expects grant funds from the FAA as early as May and the contractor has prior airport experience; construction could begin as early as this summer depending on final scheduling. Council members praised staff for leveraging grant funding and for securing a competitive bid; the motion passed 6–0.
