Office of Safe Schools reports high cumulative compliance rates in annual inspections

The Office of Safe Schools presented its quarterly and annual compliance findings. Morgan (compliance coordinator) and Jim LaRosa (director of safety and security) said the quarter included 24 site inspections and that, across the full school year, 81 district-operated schools were inspected and 63 of them presented no compliance deficiencies for an overall 96% pass rate for district-run schools. Charter inspections were fewer in number and had a lower sample pass rate for the quarter.
Office staff said inspections are typically unannounced and are chosen based on data and prior visit patterns. Reported deficiencies tended to be limited to one or a few items per campus; the office plans to increase in-person leader engagement, safer-space checks and principal-level refreshers on high-attention items. "They just show up and let us know they're there and they proceed through with reviewing the campus," Morgan said of the site visits.
