Fire Chief Trevor Steedman told the Commission that a fire at 181 Ocean (Palm Beach Shores Resort) was called in as smoke emitting from the roof and was caused when a construction contractor used a torch to burn weeds; the fire traveled into a wall space and up into the roof. Chief Steedman said Riviera Beach, West Palm Beach and Palm Beach County units assisted and that staging was used to maintain readiness for other incidents.
The chief said the incident lasted approximately one and a half hours and praised the interagency response. He also updated the Commission on the County’s COPCN process, saying the town’s COPCN passed its first hearing and a second hearing is scheduled for Dec. 2; he expects to be eligible to apply for the COPCN in January.
Commissioners thanked the Fire Department for its response; no action items were taken beyond the report.
