The Hermosa Beach Planning Commission voted July 21 to approve a proposal to demolish four existing units and build three condominium units (with two accessory dwelling units, for a total of five residential units) at Loma Drive and 6th Street.
Staff described the project as a creative design on a double lot that meets parking and livability standards; the project provides enclosed parking for each principal unit plus guest parking. Stacy Strauss, the applicant’s representative, told commissioners the design provides over‑required parking and proposed a trash management approach that avoids a large commercial bin in the public right of way by using a private cart push‑out service and by submitting a trash plan to the community development director.
Commissioners focused on trash logistics, driveway grades, building height and parking; the applicant agreed to a condition requiring a trash plan approved by the community development director and to adjust language so trash containers do not obstruct the right of way. The commission approved the staff recommendation with the proposed revisions and an amendment to the sewer condition (video of sewer lateral prior to demo permit). The vote was unanimous.
