The City Council approved a resolution authorizing the city manager to purchase four all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) for lifeguard use, funded by a 2021 donation from the Carbona family. City Manager Dan Creighton said the new units will replace ATVs put into service in 2013 and 2016 and that the older vehicles "will be auctioned off likely for parts" because of extensive repair histories.
Chief Borowski, who answered council questions about storage and maintenance, said the city currently stores ATVs "underneath the boardwalk, but the problem is it's not completely covered" and that saltwater air and moisture drive rapid corrosion. Councilmembers and residents discussed potential storage alternatives, including containers, garages or seasonal leasing; the chief cautioned against storing ATVs far from the beach because they operate on sand and some operators may not be licensed to drive them on roads. The motion passed with all council members present voting to approve the purchase.
