Union City Borough Council directed staff Sept. 16 to advertise a proposed amendment to the Tenant Registration ordinance that would permit charging violators more than once per year when they fail to provide required information. The motion to advertise the amendment was made by Councilor Steadman and seconded by Councilor Osborn and carried unanimously.
Borough Manager Cindy Wells introduced the amendment concept as a tool to improve compliance with tenant-registration requirements. The advertised amendment would change enforcement frequency to allow multiple charges in a single year for repeat noncompliance; the council approved only advertisement of the draft change at this meeting, not final adoption. A public comment or formal hearing would be required before any ordinance change became effective.
