Manhattan to make Aggieville parking garage free and remove ParkMobile requirement ahead of construction

Deputy City Manager Jason Hilgers said the plan will remove nose-in requirements and fees, redesign some garage stalls to be wider, and make spaces more convenient to reach as construction begins. He told commissioners the change is indefinite but can be revisited after Morrow Street construction is complete. Hilgers said the city previously saw garage occupancy more than double when similar measures were used last year.
Travis Wuerl, president of the Aggieville Business Association and owner of local restaurants, urged the change: "I don't wanna use the app...I refuse to park in the garage," and said making parking free would drive customers back to the district. Commissioners debated whether the policy should be permanent, how to recover operating costs (staffing and maintenance), and whether reserved monthly stalls would be affected. The commission approved the resolution and ordinance by roll call (5-0).
