Marion launches call for artists to wrap three utility boxes uptown

Kelly Willitson, recreation superintendent and staff liaison to the Marion Arts Council, presented the city's call for artists to wrap three city-owned utility boxes along 7th Avenue and at City Square Park. “Submittals will be reviewed by our council using a set of criteria and then they will be compensated, within our approved 2027 budget, 2,100, out of the $10,000,” Willitson said. The city will manage printing and installation and will coordinate with Public Works to ensure proper ventilation and installation safety.
Willitson said the open application period is expected Aug. 1–31; the Arts Council will score submissions using criteria that favor local artists. “Based on the criteria, it will also be based off of the Marion design plan and biophilic design landscape,” she said. Selections will be recommended by the Arts Council and returned to the city council for approval in October, with installation targeted for spring 2027.
