OnTheMap demo: measuring jobs, inflow/outflow and commuter patterns for Opportunity Zones

The Census webinar showed how OnTheMap can measure jobs in custom regions, inflow/outflow, and commuting distances; in the Renton example Berman reported 74,000 people working in a customized area around Tract 262 but many do not live there.
Brian Berman demonstrated OnTheMap's area comparison and inflow/outflow functions to show employment patterns near eligible Opportunity Zones. He used a custom region around Tract 262 to illustrate job counts, inflow/outflow and distance-direction charts.
"This is gonna show us how many people so our 1st question is, which of our eligible opportunity zones, have the most jobs... What we're looking at right now, 74,000 people work in 262, our customized region here, but do not live there," Berman said when summarizing the inflow/outflow results. He also showed a distance-direction (compass-rose) graphic that reports shares of workers commuting more than 10, 25 or 50 miles and noted the tool can export detailed Excel reports.
Berman recommended reloading the tool after a geography change, using small radii for large tracts and exporting the detailed report to examine inflow characteristics, earnings and age distributions. He cautioned users that OnTheMap URLs are not persistent and that map exports may need to be shared as PDFs or screenshots.
