The Director of DeKalb County code compliance opened the forum by saying the department is “reimagining” enforcement with an emphasis on education and timeliness, and set a departmental target to respond to complaints within 72 hours. “Our goal is to get out there within 72 hours,” the Director said, noting the office previously averaged about a 14-day response time.
The presentation framed enforcement as both protective and supportive: officers will issue citations more often for repeat violations while department staff will provide educational materials at each inspection. The Director described new standard operating procedures, expanded operating hours (Monday–Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.), and a block-by-block approach intended to coordinate inspections with partners across sanitation, police, courts and planning to improve overall neighborhood conditions.
