DeKalb planning chief outlines reorganization, names new deputies and managers

Julianne Njoku, DeKalb County's planning director, opened the session by describing a recent organizational restructure intended to make planning services more direct and accessible to residents. "We administer and enforce county ordinances and applicable state statutes with integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to service and excellence," Njoku said as she introduced the new structure and staff.
Njoku named several senior staff joining the reorganized team: deputy director Rachel Bragg, long-range planning manager Larry Washington and zoning and current planning manager Christopher Wheeler. She said the reorganization creates distinct divisions and a new plan-review team to ensure each application receives a full-circle technical review and consistent oversight. Njoku added the department has hired Kimberly Craig as deputy director over plan reviews and an engineering manager to strengthen environmental and land-development review capacity.
The director framed the changes as responses to resident concerns about process clarity and timeliness. She invited residents and stakeholders to meet directly with staff on specific cases and emphasized the department's role in coordinating with municipalities and central county departments to deliver services.
