Sam said the project will reduce energy use and improve regulatory compliance while keeping the plant at high operational efficiency. "This project combines $225,000 approximately in state funding with a city match for the same amount, to improve the reliability and reduce energy consumption and strengthen regulatory compliance," Sam said. Council members asked whether the upgrades impose extra service obligations; staff clarified current treatment serves connections inside city limits and any expansion would be a separate conversation.
Council moved and passed the resolution; staff said the wastewater plant has been in deferred maintenance for several years and further investments will continue as funding allows.
