The City of Medical Lake council voted to adopt the city’s first Transportation Master Plan, a long-range framework designed to prioritize safety, multimodal connections and grant-readiness over widening roads. The resolution (26-8-27) passed unanimously among members present.
Sam, the city administrator, told the council the plan “is more, it’s about more than traffic,” adding it aims to ensure “residents can safely walk to school or bike to parks or reach transit” and to preserve options for future investments. He said the document focuses city decisions on safety and connectivity while creating a pipeline of projects that can be advanced through the transportation improvement program and grant applications.
Council members praised the plan’s clarity and maps during a public hearing that drew no public testimony on the document. With the adopted plan, staff said they will prioritize intersection safety, close multimodal gaps and pursue grants to fund near-term and long-range projects. The city plans public outreach as project-level work advances and will return to council with specific projects and funding requests.
