Skate-park grand opening set for May 16 after safety fixes; Fraley and Bullitt park upgrades reported

Lawson said the skate park currently has two areas that need concrete and asphalt for parking and, weather permitting, these should be completed in time for the grand opening scheduled May 16 at 12 p.m. "The Park is closed due to construction but while Mr. Lawson was at the skate park he had two people from Bristol and four from Wytheville stop by wanting to use the park," the minutes state.
Fraley Park has a resurfaced walking trail but still needs fencing; Councilman Robert Bloomer said additional fencing is needed for young children. Bullitt Park's original fencing quote was about $40,000, but staff said materials were purchased from Lowe's and, by repurposing old poles, the final cost is approximately $10,000.
Council thanked staff and volunteers for work on parks and scheduled openings; no new funding votes were recorded at the workshop.
