Drop in Wallens Ridge prison water use reduces high-volume revenue by about $1,000 monthly

Clerk/Treasurer Amanda Hawkins told the committee that Wallens Ridge State Prison, one of the town's largest water and sewer customers, has reduced usage by approximately 700,000 gallons per month. Hawkins said that change has lowered the town's high-volume user rate revenue by nearly $1,000 per month.
Committee members discussed the revenue impact as one of the factors that influenced the need for the proposed water rate adjustment. The reduction in large-customer usage was cited alongside the new $60,100 loan payment and rising payroll and insurance costs as drivers of the recommended increase.
