Town says Proctor Street sidewalk plan sent to VDOT; bids expected in June

Town Manager Stephen Lawson told the Council the 100% design for the Proctor Street sidewalk project has been sent to the Virginia Department of Transportation and the town intends to solicit bids in June.
"100% plan for the sidewalk project on Proctor Street going into the park has been sent to VDOT with plans to get bids out in June," Lawson said. The submission follows prior engineering work and positions the town to move to construction procurement on a schedule consistent with VDOT review timelines.
Lawson also reported bridge-inspection results later in the meeting: the Short Street bridge is in good condition, while the Proctor Street bridge is listed in fair condition and the town has a two-year period to complete required repairs. That inspection finding affects sequencing and urgency for adjacent work on Proctor Street.
Council did not record a formal vote on the sidewalk project in the workshop; staff indicated the next steps are VDOT review and bid solicitation.
