Detroit council approves HBH Engineering contract and an emergency order to address treatment-plant trees and billing issues

"Discussion was had about trees by the treatment plant the removal of them. Utility billing and the recent issues that have been having sine the switch with our new provider. We are looking into another company," Matt Del Moro said while summarizing engineering concerns. Councilor Eric Page moved to approve the HBH contract and later moved an emergency order to allow staff to coordinate with the city engineer to resolve the issues; both motions passed by unanimous vote.
Council did not list contract dollar amounts in the meeting record. The emergency order authorizes administrative staff to engage the city engineer on tree removal and vendor coordination; the record indicates staff will pursue a contractor or vendor change to address recent utility-billing disruptions.
Council asked staff to continue updates on the progress of tree-removal assessments and the utility-billing vendor search; Michelle Connor said three companies had inspected hazard trees and she is seeking a Marion County grant to assist with removal.
