Superintendent Karla Head reported Dec. 16 that Elgin Jr./Sr. High has been identified by state review as a school in need of targeted intervention. She said staff had already begun planning changes to address learning gaps, including a bell-schedule change that will add a structured intervention/enrichment period starting in January.
Head told the board that the schedule change will dedicate two days per week to math interventions and two days per week to reading interventions; the district has ordered new math curriculum for grades 6–12 and will convene staff for professional development (Kagan strategies) in February and March. Head also flagged Title I planning: the district listed a Title I Annual Budget Meeting/Family Night on Jan. 15–16 in different agenda items; district staff will confirm the final date and public notice.
She reported current secondary enrollment as 181 students and described expanding iReady participation and associated incentives. Head said restorative-justice approaches are being emphasized at the secondary level and noted that formal observations for probationary teachers are in progress.
