Elgin board seeks bids, hires project manager to finish fieldhouse and pursue matching grants

The Elgin School District Board on Oct. 21 approved advertising an RFP to determine costs and scope needed to complete the fieldhouse behind the junior/senior high school, a step district leaders say is necessary to begin pursuing grants and fundraising.
Board members voted to pair the RFP with a professional project manager: the board approved collaborating with Brian Hardebeck, project manager with Otak CPM, to lead next steps in procurement and scope definition. "We need proposals on what it will cost and a detailed description of what is involved in completing the fieldhouse," a board member stated during the motion.
Superintendent Karla Head told the board the district plans to winterize and secure the fieldhouse before pursuing phased construction so the building does not suffer weather damage. The RFP is intended to produce both a cost estimate and a phased work plan to support applications for matching funds and targeted fundraising.
The motion to advertise the RFP and to work with Otak CPM carried with board approval; no roll-call tally was provided in the public minutes. The board directed staff to proceed with procurement steps so that grant applications and fundraising campaigns can move forward this winter.
