Skate Park grand opening set; council reminds public of Gathering in the Gap

Town Manager Stephen Lawson briefed council on several community and parks items, including the Skate Park grand opening scheduled for Saturday, May 16 at 11 a.m. He said there will be giveaways (bikes, skateboards, scooters and safety equipment) and freestyle riders performing stunts.
Councilmembers and school representatives discussed reserve seating and track resurfacing for Union High School with a target to complete resurfacing in June and have seating in place before July 4. Assistant Principal Tyler McFarland raised concerns about rising ticket prices and told the mayor he expected ticket prices may increase to about $95 per seat; Councilman Adam Harris suggested the school consider reserved parking to offset logistical issues.
Councilwoman Crystal Lyke suggested considering security cameras to protect new seating from vandalism, and the council reminded the public that Gathering in the Gap on May 23 is free except for the main stage. Council encouraged residents to attend both events.
